Dasuquin alternatives in India depend on the goal. Dasuquin is a joint supplement; FortiFlora and Proviable are probiotics, so they are not interchangeable. For joints, compare JOUNCE® with 600 mg glucosamine plus 4 mg UC-II® per chewable crunchie. For gut health, compare JOLLY GUT® with 5 probiotic strains and 800 million CFU per gram.
If you are searching for Dasuquin alternatives in India, first decide whether you need mobility support or digestive support. A joint supplement cannot replace a probiotic, and a probiotic cannot replace a joint-support formula.
Dasuquin is positioned by Nutramax as a joint-support supplement. FortiFlora is a canine digestive supplement, while Proviable-DC is a multi-strain probiotic with prebiotics. The manufacturers’ product pages therefore place these products in different categories, not on a single interchangeable scale: Nutramax’s Dasuquin product page, checked 4 October 2026 and Nutramax’s Proviable-DC product page, checked 4 October 2026.
An Indian-made product is not automatically more effective than an imported product. The useful comparison is more practical: disclosed ingredients, amount or CFU, format, weight-based directions, transparent price, manufacturing information and whether you can maintain the routine.
Joint support and digestive support are different categories
For small and medium dogs, the Dasuquin label lists 600 mg glucosamine hydrochloride, 250 mg sodium chondroitin sulfate, 45 mg avocado/soybean unsaponifiables, 20 mg Boswellia serrata extract and 16 mg green tea extract per tablet. The page also shows 84-count small or medium formats, with 84- and 150-count formats for large dogs. These are manufacturer label details, not evidence that the product suits every dog.
FortiFlora is a Purina canine probiotic supplement. Purina’s product page could not be loaded when we checked in October 2026, so its strain, CFU amount, pack size and price are not stated here.
Proviable-DC is different again. Its product page identifies seven bacterial strains, prebiotics and a minimum of 5 billion CFU per capsule. The direction shown is one capsule daily or as directed by a veterinarian.
The evidence for joint nutraceuticals also needs a boundary. A systematic review and meta-analysis of 72 canine and feline osteoarthritis trials reported a marked non-effect for glucosamine-chondroitin nutraceuticals in osteoarthritis pain management, while omega-3-enriched diets and omega-3 supplements had clearer analgesic evidence. This finding applies to the reviewed category and trial evidence, not to an individual dog or a promise about a named product: Barbeau-Grégoire et al. 2022.

Comparing Dasuquin and JOUNCE® as joint-category options
Dasuquin and JOUNCE® have ingredient overlap, but that does not establish equivalent effects or suitability.
| Label feature | Dasuquin | JOUNCE® |
|---|---|---|
| Glucosamine | Glucosamine hydrochloride, 600 mg in the small/medium formula | Glucosamine hydrochloride, 600 mg per crunchie |
| Chondroitin | Sodium chondroitin sulfate, 250 mg in the small/medium formula | Chondroitin sulphate, 200 mg per crunchie |
| Boswellia | Boswellia serrata extract, 20 mg in the small/medium formula | Boswellia, 50 mg per crunchie |
| Other disclosed ingredients | Avocado/soybean unsaponifiables and green tea extract | MSM, UC-II® undenatured Type II collagen, curcumin, hyaluronic acid, ashwagandha, manganese, vitamin C and brewer’s yeast |
| Price shown in this comparison | No INR price on the cited page | ₹1,799 for 50 crunchies, checked October 2026 |
The 600 mg glucosamine and 4 mg UC-II® amounts should be read as label specifications, not as an outcome ranking. Undenatured Type II collagen is expressed at milligram amounts rather than compared directly with gram-scale nutrients. A controlled canine study evaluated UC-II® in dogs with osteoarthritis, but its results do not establish that every UC-II® dose or combination will have the same effect: Stabile et al. 2019.
For a dog with diagnosed osteoarthritis, a supplement can be considered within a broader plan. The OA-COAST consensus describes canine osteoarthritis care as individualized, multimodal and subject to reassessment over the dog’s life: Mosley et al. 2022. Supplements support health and are not a substitute for diagnosis, pain management or veterinary care.
For broader joint comparison criteria, see the joint-supplement guide for dogs in India. The Unleash Wellness® science page also explains its ingredient disclosure and manufacturing standards, and the Unleash Wellness® comparison guide discusses clinical verification standards.
Keep the gut comparison separate
Proviable-DC identifies Enterococcus faecium, Streptococcus thermophilus, Lactobacillus helveticus, Lactobacillus delbrueckii, Lactobacillus casei, Bifidobacterium bifidum and Lactobacillus plantarum, with a minimum of 5 billion CFU per capsule. Its label direction is one capsule daily or as directed by a veterinarian.
JOLLY GUT® is described by the manufacturer as a synbiotic with 5 probiotic strains, 800 million CFU per gram, FOS and MOS prebiotics and a 7-enzyme digestive complex. It is a tasteless powder dosed by the dog’s weight and mixed into food. This is manufacturer disclosure, not independent clinical evidence for JOLLY GUT® itself.
More strains do not automatically make a probiotic preferable. In a placebo-controlled study of a specific probiotic and prebiotic paste in dogs with acute uncomplicated diarrhoea, the tested paste was associated with a shorter median duration of diarrhoea than placebo. That result applies to the tested paste and study population, not to every probiotic: Nixon et al. 2019.
A separate systematic review found that canine probiotic studies were often small and had moderate-to-high risk of bias. The authors described the overall effect as limited or possibly clinically unimportant: Jensen and Bjørnvad 2019.
India’s 40°C summers and monsoon humidity make transit and storage a practical question for live cultures. That does not establish that an imported probiotic fails, or that an Indian probiotic passes a particular stability test. Check storage instructions, expiry information, strain identity and guaranteed CFU rather than assuming origin determines quality.
Dosage and format: how the right routine can help live bacteria reach the gut
A CFU count is not the same as delivered live bacteria
A label count matters only if the organisms remain viable through storage and administration. In testing of 25 commercial veterinary probiotics, only 4 of 15 products with specific viable-organism claims met or exceeded their label claim. The study was published in 2011 and should not be used to judge any current named product without current testing: Weese and Martin 2011.
Stomach acid and bile are important barriers to probiotic survival. A human upper-gastrointestinal model examined these conditions and meal timing, but it was not a dog study. Its findings should therefore be treated as model evidence, not a canine outcome: Tompkins et al. 2011.
Dose by body weight, not by a human sachet or a bowl of curd
JOLLY GUT® is dosed according to the dog’s weight band on its live product information. A bowl of curd or a human sachet is not a measured equivalent because the bacterial strains, concentration and serving size can vary. Use the dog product’s directions and ask your own veterinarian to confirm the routine for a puppy, senior dog or dog with a health condition.
A tasteless powder can be mixed into familiar Indian home food such as rice-dal or roti-based meals. Mixing convenience may improve consistency, but it does not remove the need to use the stated weight-based amount.
Format and storage matter
A powder mixed into food, a heat-processed treat and a liquid are not automatically equivalent delivery formats. Heat, moisture and pressure during processing can be practical concerns for live cultures. Do not assume a format preserves the same number of viable organisms without appropriate label and quality information.
The human upper-gastrointestinal model by Tompkins and colleagues reported better survival when the probiotic was taken with or just before a meal. Again, this was human-model evidence, not a dog trial. Store a probiotic jar cool and dry, with the lid closed, away from a sunny window or hot kitchen. This is particularly relevant during Indian summers and monsoon humidity.
Prebiotics provide a separate comparison point
JOLLY GUT® includes FOS and MOS prebiotics. In adult dogs, a 2021 study of mixed prebiotic diets reported changes in faecal microbiota, fermentation products and faecal IgA. The tested diet was not JOLLY GUT®, so the result should not be presented as proof of an identical product effect: Panasevich et al. 2021.
In a separate shelter trial, a specific probiotic-prebiotic supplement was associated with lower diarrhoea incidence among the tested dogs. That finding applies to the tested synbiotic and shelter population, not to every prebiotic or probiotic combination: Rose et al. 2017.
A five-question framework for choosing a local or imported product
- What is the goal? Is it mobility support, digestive support or assessment of a condition that needs veterinary care?
- Is the category appropriate? Compare Dasuquin and JOUNCE® within joint support. Compare FortiFlora, Proviable and JOLLY GUT® within gut support.
- Does the label disclose the useful amount? Look for mg by active ingredient, or CFU with strain information for probiotics.
- Is the current price visible in ₹? Separate a dated Indian price from a US price, and do not treat a currency conversion as an India price.
- What will you track? Decide which changes matter, such as ease of rising, stair hesitation, stool consistency or appetite, and decide when you will consult your own vet.
Worked example
Imagine a 15 kg Beagle with stiffness after rest but no diarrhoea. The relevant comparison is between joint-support products, not FortiFlora or Proviable.
The JOUNCE® feeding chart lists one crunchie a day for dogs weighing 10–20 kg, with a 50-crunchie pack lasting about 50 days. At ₹1,799 for 50 crunchies, the budgeting calculation is ₹1,799 ÷ 50 crunchies = ₹35.98 per day for the initial 4 to 6 weeks. The same page halves the dose for long-term use. This is a budgeting illustration, not a prescription.
Track ease of rising, hesitation on stairs and walk tolerance weekly. Worsening pain, lameness or a sudden mobility change warrants veterinary assessment. The product page’s weight direction should not replace an individualized veterinary recommendation.
Frequently asked questions
What are some alternatives to Cosequin for dogs?
Joint-category alternatives should be compared by disclosed ingredients, weight directions, format and locally visible pricing. Dasuquin and JOUNCE® are examples of joint-support products, while FortiFlora and Proviable are digestive probiotics, not mobility substitutes. Ingredient overlap does not establish equivalent effects or suitability for an individual dog. Consult your own vet before starting one.
What are some other NSAIDs for dogs that are similar to Metacam?
Metacam contains meloxicam, an NSAID. American Veterinary Medical Association medication guidance, checked October 2026, lists carprofen, deracoxib, firocoxib and meloxicam among commonly used NSAIDs for dogs. This is not a switching guide. Do not change, combine or alter prescribed medication without the prescribing veterinarian’s direction.
What is the safest NSAID for dogs?
No single NSAID can be named safest for every dog. A veterinarian weighs the diagnosis, other medicines, hydration and individual risk factors. AAHA’s 2022 pain guidelines note renal, hepatic and gastrointestinal risks associated with NSAIDs, while FDA guidance explains that serious adverse effects can occur. Follow the prescribed dose and monitoring plan.
Is there one arthritis medicine that works for every dog?
No. Canine osteoarthritis management is individualized and may combine veterinary medicines, activity changes, weight management, rehabilitation and other support. Supplements are not immediate pain relief and are not a substitute for veterinary care. The OA-COAST consensus describes multimodal care with reassessment over time: Mosley et al. 2022. If mobility is the goal, you can explore JOUNCE®. If the goal is gut health, review JOLLY GUT® with your own veterinarian rather than treating it as a Dasuquin substitute.
